Stuff

Lunch boxes are back! If you’re all packed up and ready to go, it’s a good idea to make sure your smoothies, salads, and snacks are contained in the right materials. You don’t want your smoothie leaking into your bag—yes, this happened to me—or banana bread drying out before you can sink your teeth into it. It’s also important to reduce the amount of waste we produce and avoid exposure to nasty chemicals in the products we use.

Sandwich Bags

Forget plastic! I use sandwich bags made of paper or cotton to transport a tasty slice of banana bread or a freshly made loaf. Your food will taste better coming out of this packaging and you can reuse the bags. Shaking the bags out is often enough to keep them clean, but there are also sandwich bags that can be washed.

Containers, Bottles, and Jars

If you’re on the go often, it’s really important to invest in tons of containers, bottles, and jars. How else are you supposed to take your fresh lunches, juices, and snacks with you on your way? You can also use these containers to store your creations in the refrigerator or freezer. The best choices are glass, stainless steel, or BPA (Bisphenol A)-free plastic that does not contain softeners or parabens.

Weck and Mason Jars

I use small hermetically sealing glass jars to store sauces and spreads or, because they seal so securely, to take with me on the go. I use larger jars as to-go containers for salads and smoothies. A mustard or jam jar works well and looks cool, too. Just remove the label—and voilà! Do make sure that any reused jars seal tightly.
