SLOUCHY ANKLE WARMERS

You’ve packed away your winter boots, the spring sunshine is beckoning, but my goodness, it’s still a bit chilly in the mornings. Keep your legs toasty-warm with these sweet little ankle warmers. Crocheted in soft and cosy yarn, they combine alternate rows of ‘V’ stitch with groups of treble crochet to create a pretty, yet simple pattern.

Leave a 70cm (2712in) tail for making up.

MAKING UP

With right side (RS) facing you (the tail from the foundation chain will be at the bottom left corner), turn the outside edges into the middle and thread the tapestry needle with the long tail. Stitch the two sides together, making sure that there are no big gaps along the seams. Then fasten off (see Fastening off), weave in ends (see Weaving in ends) and turn out the right way. These little ankle warmers are perfect to warm that gap between your skinny jeans and your summer pumps. No more cold ankles for you.

Adjusting the pattern

It’s easy to adjust this pattern: If you want longer or shorter ankle warmers then simply add or subtract rows. If you need to alter the width, simply change the length of the foundation chain – just ensure the total number of stitches is a multiple of three, then add two more.

OTHER THINGS TO TRY

Why not make this pattern double the width? You’d have a rather lovely cowl and if you made this pattern much narrower, you could make a cute pair of wrist warmers, too!
