Waking Stave
This dawning day
brings deeds of might
for us the bold and brave.
For gifts from the gods,
I give my thanks;
may I wield them well today!
Sun Stave
Sunna I hail
in Sól’s bright light;
may day bring doughty works.
May your shining light
give me surest might
for all my deeds and doings.
Washing Stave
May these primal waters
make pure my life
and wash away the ill.
Let be borne to me
a boon from the gods
by washing with water today.
Food Stave
For the might and main
through this meal I gain,
my thanks I give to the gods.
Let their blessings bring
to my being the strength
that enables worthy works.
Drink Stave
May this draught I drink
drive me onward
to honor ancestors with deeds.
The gift of life
they’ve given to me;
may I well return their weal.
Moon Stave
Mylinn I hail
in Máni’s bright light;
may night bring needed rest.
May your shining light
give me surest main
from worlds beyond awareness.
Sleeping Stave
I rightly ride
to realm of sleep,
restoring strength in my soul.
Let the greatest tales
of gods and heroes
bring might and main through dreams.
Well will I rest,
then wake refreshed,
filled with happy health.
For Collecting a Blót Tine
Hail the spirit
of this holy tree;
a gift for a gift I offer.
Take this token
for a tine of might
that I’ll wield in the work of blessing.
For Returning a Blót Tine
To the tree returns
this tine of might
as a circle of power is sealed.
For Pouring Out a Blót Bowl
Rightly now
our rite is ended
by grounding might and main.
We pour it here
with pride and honor:
“From the gods to the earth to us,
from us to the earth to the gods
— a gift for a gift — hail!”
An Opening Call for Sumbel
Around together
we’re rightly gathered,
and from horn we’ll drink
the heroes’ draught.
In mighty moods
we’ll mingle now
and speak our spirits
for a spell tonight.
A Closing Call for Sumbel
Right rounds we gave
and rendered well;
the working of Wyrd
with words we shaped.
Let’s in leisure
now lift our horns
and merry-make
with mirth tonight.
