Stepping through the midnight sun
To a life that never ends
Snowflakes fall, winter comes
Time to make amends
God of wind, god of time
I give my heart to thee
Take me to a better place
Let my soul fly free
Let my soul fly free
Beyond the moon, beyond the stars
A wizard guiding me
Beyond the moon, beyond the stars
Beyond the galaxy
A secret place, a gentle space
A land beyond pretend
Where time stands still and always will
Time stands still
Time never ends
Chorus:
Time goes on forever
Time never ends
No, time never ends
Footprints in the sea of time
We watch and do our thing
But all we leave behind us
Is the loving that we bring
Mother nature, northern lights
All that life can bring
The mountain spirit dances and
The evening owls sing
The evening owls sing
God of dreams, of life supreme
Come to me tonight
Guide me to a better place
Beyond this starry night
Take me to a better place
On golden spirit wings
Where time stands still and always will
Time stands still
Time never ends
(Chorus)
Time goes on forever
Time never ends
No, time never ends
(Chorus) (2x)
Where gods and angels sing
Where gods and angels sing
Words by Mickey Hart
Music by Mickey Hart and Warren Haynes
First performance by The Dead: August 10, 2004, at the PNC Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey.
Mickey Hart described the origin of the song in his road journal:
Tonight we introduced a new one I wrote; it is called “Time Never Ends.” This song is very powerful. I wrote it as a sort of prayer and then I decided not to play it soft and sweet but go the opposite way with the music, to give it a ska and high-life kinda groove. I think it works well in this form.
