If you’re not a big fan of green leafy vegetables, the rich texture and tropical flavour of the mango and banana are a real boon. This makes a nutritious and sustaining, get-up-and-go start to the day when energy-levels are low.
2 small handfuls of kale, tough stems discarded, shredded
1 medium mango, peeled, pitted and sliced
1 medium banana, peeled and sliced
2 tablespoons sunflower seeds
1–2 teaspoons spirulina powder (see page 18)

Put the kale, mango, banana, sunflower seeds and spirulina in a blender with 400 ml/1⅔ cups pure or filtered water, then blend until smooth.
