Your hair, skin and nails will love this blended juice, which is bursting with vitamins A and C, fibre, antioxidants and phytonutrients. A lack of these nutrients, particularly vitamin A, can result in a dry scalp and possibly lead to hair loss.

100 ml/⅓ cup coconut water

3 large handfuls of chopped, deseeded watermelon

2 large handfuls of strawberries, hulled

1 large carrot, peeled and grated

½ teaspoon flaxseed oil

1–2 teaspoons spirulina powder (see page 18)

SERVES 2

Put the coconut water in a blender with the watermelon, strawberries, carrot, flaxseed oil and spirulina and blend until smooth.

strawberries are a good source of the trace mineral silica, a deficiency of which can affect the condition of the skin, hair and nails, and they are also believed to have good skin-cleansing properties. One large handful of the fruit will provide you with your daily requirement of vitamin C, while B complex vitamins are also present in good amounts.
