Rocket fuel

The chilli/chile certainly gives a kick to this nutrient-dense juice, which will liven you up for the day ahead. Remove the seeds from the chilli/chile if you prefer a tamer juice!

2 apples, quartered, cored and cut into wedges

2 large handfuls of curly kale

1 handful of broccoli, stalks and florets, chopped

2 medium carrots, peeled and halved lengthways

2 handfuls of alfalfa sprouts

1 medium red chilli/chile, quartered lengthways

2 teaspoons lemon juice

2 teaspoons powdered greens (see page 17) 1–2 teaspoons barleygrass (see page 14)

SERVES 2

Juice the apples, kale, broccoli, carrots, alfalfa sprouts and three-quarters of the chilli/chile. Stir in the lemon juice and powdered greens or barleygrass. Finely chop the reserved chilli/chile and sprinkle on top of each glass.

chillies/chiles are a powerful stimulant and expectorant and also have the reputation of being an aphrodisiac. Packed with vitamin C, they stimulate the release of endorphins, helping to lift mood and energy levels.
