Eulalie Bachmann, who published under her first name only, was born in London. Her first picture book, Bobby in Bubbleland (1913), was published when she was just eighteen. In 1916, she married Arthur Wilson, a captain in the RAF Expeditionary Force, and in 1918, the couple moved first to Canada, then to the United States. She collaborated with Watty Piper on several fairytale books for New York publishers Platt & Munk.
She was divorced in 1931 and moved to California, where she painted murals for Hollywood stars, including Harold Lloyd and Charlie Chaplin. In 1937 she returned to England, where she lived until 1953; she then moved back to California to live until her death. She continued to draw and paint until she was in her nineties and illustrated an impressive number of calendars, magazines, and greeting cards as well as over fifty children’s books during her long career.
