In this chapter you’ll learn the basics that you need to know to get started with GIMP. You’ll get the most out of this chapter if you work along, so read in front of a computer if possible.
GIMP doesn’t have any fancy system requirements, like a high-end graphics card or a multi-core processor. We do recommend at least 2GB of memory and a 20-inch monitor, although you can make do with less. We also suggest that you use a mouse rather than a touchpad or, better yet, invest in a graphics tablet.
