Epilogue

Cari, my dear! I hadnt heard from you and was starting to think I needed to send out the search party.

Hi, Grandmother. Im sorry for being out of touch the last few days. A lot has happened. Im not even sure where to start.

Well, start with how your name ended up on the front-page story on Tuesday morning!

Cari grinned. I thought you might have seen that. I was probably more shocked than anyone, well, maybe not Lionel! My editor realized that I wasnt the one trying to steal someones story; I was the one really trying to chase the story. After Lionel snooped through my workstation, I had to smooth things over with Bob too. He thought that I had been using our friendship to get ahead in my career.

And? Her grandmother asked after a lengthy pause.

If Im being honest, I was. I wanted that story so badly that I was overlooking what really mattered. Thankfully, Bob showed me mercy and is still speaking to me. It took a little groveling and several breakfast tacos to get him to come around.

Her grandmother laughed. Oh, Cari. Youre always up to something. Im glad you apologized and worked things out with Bob. Hes a nice young man and a goodfriend.

Now, Grandmother, dont you go getting ideas. Cari laughed. Bob and I are just friends.

Okay, my dear. Im proud of you. You worked hard and did a good job with your story. I bought an extra copy of your paper this week so that I could cut your article out and hang it on my fridge. I showed it to all of my book club friends yesterday, and they were so impressed. Im proud of you, girl!

Thank you, Grandmother. I should let you go. I love you.

I love you more.
