Vermont Covered Bridges draws from the work of many people. Richard Sanders Allen is the dean of covered bridge historians. He has been an immeasurable help, both by way of his historical research and by the photographs he took during his travels in the 1930s and 1940s. Raymond and Barbara Brainerd and Henry A. Gibson sought out covered bridges during the same period, as did Herbert Richter a decade later. All of these photographers have generously donated their collections to the archives of the National Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges, from which this book was drawn. The society will receive the royalties from sales of this book.
