This novel was published in 1823 and is set in the area of Drontheim in Norway in 1699. Ordener Guldenlew, the main character, is a young man who is noble, brave and virtuous, and the son of the viceroy of Norway.  He is in love with Ethel, who has been dishonoured by the King and imprisoned at the fortress of Munkholm.
