They say that sharing is caring, and I care when it comes to sharing a salad. It can reveal things about people. There are the horizontal grabbers who get all the crunchy, crispy and creamy bits off the top: they can be revealed as selfish or simply unaware. There are the pickers, who pretty much fall into the same category, and then there are the vertical-tong types who clearly have a well-developed sense of salad etiquette and a natural awareness of salad structure. Vertical pickers are welcome at my table and I have successfully trained all but one family member in the art (that one will always be a liability around a salad plate). Salad-sharing anxiety can easily be solved with a little tossing or layering, and by making sure all the ingredients you use are delicious!
