PROBATION

Pepe had just been released from prison and came with me on tour during his probation before his final release. He had become more and more interested in making music, and I put him on a song for the first time by letting him sing the hook on “Caliente.” With the help of Livid and Kewan, we were able to get Pepe to lay down the hook even though he had no previous experience

I moved all my future releases to Warner and entered an override agreement between Sony and Warner. Meanwhile, my last four songs released at Sony were made into an EP that was garnering significant streaming numbers in Europe.

Our negotiations with Warner were finally done. I had negotiated a 2.5 million DKK ($381,000) contract for the group Camo that I was a part of; Probation, our own label; and for myself, the artist. One million of which were earmarked for Probation, half of which would be used to sign new artists, production, et cetera, which still had to be approved by and paid for by Warner in the end. The rest of the money would be used as we saw fit, but the priority would be for overhead to run the label.

I still hadn’t released either “Caliente” or “Laila,” but I had them in the stash as pre-produced songs with finished music videos when I began my Warner run.
