There are myths and prophecies that speak of the time we are in as a time of great transformation. Buddhist scholar and environmental activist Joanna Macy calls this time the Great Turning. She tells the stories of the Shambala warriors who go into the portals of darkness and illusion to bring light, healing, and transformation on behalf of the Great Turning—this is a prophecy of regeneration. Other ancient stories speak of people from all walks of life and cultures coming together as the rainbow warriors who will bring healing to our planet at a time of environmental devastation and ecological despair. In the Americas, we have the legends of the condor and eagle, who begin flying together, bringing us out of cultures of dominance and bringing our world back into balance.
I am a mother, a Witch, a lover of this Earth, and I am humble before the Great Mystery. I have hope for our future, for hope fuels my heart and actions and helps me make medicine of my life. For me, being hopeless and falling into despair would be a disservice to this web of magick, this tapestry we dance in. It would not feel right to speak projections of doom into the great unknown. In my heart, I feel the Great Web needs songs of beauty to be sung into the strings of creation—songs of love and faith. I imagine what the choir of our hopes strung together sound like. I can feel the harmonies, the unexpected delight of alchemical song. In the feeling, I affirm that it is done.
And so I sing my love song to the Earth. I work to create sanctuaries where my brothers and sisters can fall in love with the Earth, with themselves, and with the Great Mystery of Spirit.
May we love the Earth in deep devotion and great beauty.
Love is the greatest motivation, the greatest source of healing and miracles. Humans take responsibility for those they love.
As an educator, environmentalist, Green Witch, devotee of the Earth, mother, and lover, I see how creating opportunities for people to cultivate embodied relationship with the Earth opens their hearts and senses to the miracles of being alive, being a part of Gaia. When our hearts open to Nature, we heal and blossom. When we fall in love with the Earth, the unique gifts that are dormant in our souls and centers of action may awaken, and we may become embodied medicine.
It is easy to look at the conveniences of modern living, such as plastic or online shopping, and become discouraged in humanity. However, shame and guilt do not motivate our brothers and sisters into an open and long-lasting transformation of behavior. It is love that opens us up to feel the pain of the polluted oceans and the miracles of the womb from which all of life crawled out of.
Fall in Love with the Earth.
Fall in Love with yourself.
Be the most devoted lover to Her.
Sing songs and praise to the Great Mystery.
Make your life a magickal, radical act of Love, a living prayer.
Make beauty, make medicine, be medicine.
Be love,
spiraling out in ecstatic unfoldment.
Thank you.
May you be blessed.
And so it is.
