FAKE IT: How to Hide the Signs of One Too Many CocktailsFAKE IT: How to Hide the Signs of One Too Many Cocktails
Whether you’re meeting your fiancé for brunch or just would prefer not to look like death even within the confines of your own home, look like a million bucks (even if you feel like trash!) with these beauty-boosting and hangover-concealing tips. And for all you ladies on a multi-night bachelorette weekend, this is so you can rock it on night two looking as fresh as ever!
GET CLEAN
You’d be surprised how many “under circles” are primarily residual eye makeup leftover from the night before! Before you start fretting and concealing, clean your face one more time (let’s be honest, last night’s beauty routine wasn’t exactly up to par). Have stubborn eyeliner, mascara, or glitter (hey, no judgments!) stuck in place? Dip a cotton swab in coconut oil or olive oil to gently and effectively remove even the most stubborn makeup without irritating your eyes.
REHYDRATE
Your skin is one of the first places to show the signs of dehydration (and few things dehydrate you more than alcohol or a sleepless night) so any hangover beauty routine needs to start with some serious hydration, both from the inside out and outside in. Step 1: chug some water—or, better yet, coconut water, which is packed with hydration-boosting electrolytes, too. Step 2: apply moisturizer to that clean face of yours.
DE-PUFF
If you have an extra white potato lying around, apply thin slices to your eyes for ten minutes. Potatoes not only retain their chill for longer than cucumbers, but also contain catecholase, an enzyme used in pricey eye creams, that reduces the appearance of under eye circles! No potatoes around? Place anything cold on your face. Even two spoons popped in the freezer for a couple of minutes can do the trick.
EVEN OUT
Late nights leave even the most even-skinned among us blotchy and dull. To give yourself a boost without caking on the makeup, DIY your own ultra-brightening BB cream: mix equal parts of your favorite foundation with your usual day cream before adding a dab of luminizer. Apply all over your face and follow with concealer, as needed. If you’re feeling queasy, add some powder to prevent any clamminess from showing through.
BLUSH
Add a dab of cream blush to the apples of your cheeks (the part that puffs out a bit when you smile). The creamy consistency will help add a vibrant (not clammy!) dewiness to your complexion for a youthful, fresh finish.
HIGHLIGHT
Just as a bright yellow highlighter grabs your attention when used in books, highlighting with makeup will do the same for your face and, when used strategically, help to conceal the signs of a sleepless night. Dab a bit of golden or cream shimmer to the innermost corners of your eyes and on your brow bone to make your eyes look more awake, and add a soft swipe to your cheekbones to make your skin appear radiant.
CURL
Not your hair. Your lashes. Just a quick clamp of the eyelash curler (don’t worry, with a bit of practice you’ll be a pro in no time) and you’ll immediately look more awake. Follow with waterproof mascara and your makeup is good to go!
REDO THE ’DO
Sure, a shower will make you feel better, but if you couldn’t resist hitting snooze and run out of time, or are just hoping to salvage a picture-perfect blowout from the night before, dry shampoo is your new BFF. Spray sparingly to your roots. Use your fingers to rub it in for instant volume and oil coverage. Hair still looking bed-head-like? Use bobby pins (or a Goody Spin Pin, which is my favorite!) to secure hair in an elastic-free bun. In a few hours, undo the ’do for runway-ready waves, painlessly.
