Measure the circumference of your grandchild’s head. Cut a 4-inch-wide strip of paper at least 2 inches longer than that measurement.
Cover the strip with foil or colored papers and glue them in place.
Decorate with paint, markers, cutout stars and moons, and glitter.
Cut a fanciful border for the top of the crown (see the suggested pattern below).
Close the paper circle of the crown with a strip of tape. Staple along the tape (to prevent it from tearing).
Use a piece of construction paper 12 inches high and 24 inches wide.
Mark a midpoint at the top (12 inches from each side) and on each side (6 inches from top and bottom). Then, mark a point 6 inches from each side on the bottom. Connect the points with dotted lines, as shown.
Cut along the dotted lines.
Overlap the points on the side ends and form a cone with the point at the top of the paper becoming the tip of the cap. As you roll the cone shape, be careful not to crease the paper. Adjust the amount of overlap to fit the child’s head, and then staple to secure. Cover the staple and the overlapping seam with tape.
Decorate with foil paper, cutout stars, glitter, and gemstones.
