THEY HAVE BEEN INSIDE the house for a day now.

When I saw Cas attack Hunter, my first instinct was to fly across the room and break every bone in his hand. Until I realised what was going on, and that this is what I have been waiting for.

Cas is the only one that has come and gone. A few humans have gone inside and not come back out. Wherever Hunter is being held must be soundproof, because if I hadn’t seen him being dragged inside, I wouldn’t be convinced he is even here.

A door to the side of the house bangs open, and I hunker lower in my position. Cas exits the house, one of the human girls I saw him take inside now limply flung over his shoulder. Her lifeless eyes stare ahead as he tosses her into the back of the car.

My stomach churns at the sight of it. These vampires are monsters. I should go inside right now and risk it all just to ensure there are no more deaths. But I can’t. I’ve waited this long. I need to continue to be patient. I need to choose my entrance wisely. I will be outnumbered, so I must be smart about this.

The time is nearing.

I am ready.
