Masala chai translates literally to “spiced tea”. Describing it as the national drink of
India is not a stretch. Sold by chai wallahs (tea vendors) on the streets of India, masala
chai is an everyday staple for many Indians, and it is now gaining popularity in other
countries. I love it for its comforting warmth, which makes it the perfect drink to have
during the monsoon season or any cold weather. A friend once gave me a bag of masala
chai (spiced black tea) blend from India. I’m no expert when it comes to Indian cuisine,
so I used it in something I’m more confident at – baking! I once shared these muffins at
a vegan potluck in Singapore and my Indian friends gave their stamp of approval. You
can use this recipe to make any flavour of muffins you like!
