FUCHSIA CAP/GROOM’S BERET

285 x 115 mm

David Evans

Part of my extensive clothing range … like not. This bit of millinery is at least wholly mine and I wore it on the occasion of the registration of our civil partnership in December 2005. I’ve always fancied myself as a hat person and the decline of men’s wearing of hats has always been something of a sadness to me. I seem to remember that ‘O’ level mathematics came into the design at some point and I was duly grateful to my mathematics teachers Sol Gurney, Billy Burchell and Arthur Pears for instilling something of the Pi R squared culture into my unreceptive schoolboy brain.

I could have experimented more and made more versions of the hat, but I didn’t. Someone once said the little pink tulips looked like flying gay sperms. Some people are so encouraging.
