* Over the course of her reign Victoria saved an estimated £800,000 (£36.5 million in 2005 prices) from the civil list, which went into the Privy Purse. She agreed to pay income tax in 1842.

* Victoria created Disraeli Earl of Beaconsfield in 1876, shortly before Gladstone’s intervention in the Eastern Crisis.
