HRAFNKEL’S SAGA

Nothing is known of the authorship of Hrafnkel’s Saga.

HERMANN PÁLSSON studied Icelandic at the University of Iceland and Celtic at University College, Dublin. He was Professor of Icelandic at the University of Edinburgh, where he taught from 1950 to 1988. He was the General Editor of the New Saga Library and the author of many books on the history and literature of medieval Iceland; his more recent publications include Legendary Fiction in Medieval Iceland (with Paul Edwards), Art and Ethics in Hrafnkel’s Saga and Vikings in Russia (with Paul Edwards). Hermann Pálsson also translated (with Magnus Magnusson) Laxdaela Saga, Njal’s Saga, King Harald’s Saga and The Vinland Sagas; and (with Paul Edwards) Egil’s Saga, Orkneyinga Saga, Eyrbyggja Saga and Seven Viking Romances for Penguin Classics. He died in 2002.
