None of us know what is going on in someone’s life. If someone is behaving in a way you don’t like, try to be understanding.

The person that sped past you might be in the middle of a crisis, the person who was abrupt might have had some bad news, and the child misbehaving might be having a tough time at home. Thinking the worst of people will bring you down and reduce your capacity for kindness. Choose to think the best of everyone instead.


One day, I asked my students to fill in the blank in this sentence: “I wish my teacher knew______.” These were some of the responses:

+ “Sometimes my homework is not signed because my mum is not around a lot.”

+ “My family lives in a shelter.”

+ “My dad died this year and I feel more alone than ever before.”
