By having patience and being courteous to people, for even one minute a day, you can make a positive difference.
Could you give away one minute of your day to create a kinder world? Try to leave home a minute earlier than usual so you have time to be more thoughtful, let someone ahead of you in a queue and let other cars in when you’re driving. Would you rather be the angry person honking their horn or the calm soul waving someone through?
‘Not only does patience benefit others but it is also good for you! Research shows that of the different types of patience people may possess (such as patience with life hardships, daily hassles, or people), patience with other people is most predictive of personal well-being. Moreover, incorporating intentional practices into daily life to increase patience can increase positive emotions and decrease depressive symptoms. Some people think that cultivating patience will make them timid or a “doormat”, but this is not what we find in our research. Patience actually facilitates goal achievement across time and is independent from assertiveness.’
