Chapter 12

Abraham answered his ringing phone. “Yes?”

“There’s been a change of plans.”

Abraham sighed. “That usually involves more time and money.”

“No, it shouldn’t. I just want to swap out the woman on the list for another man. He’s a far better choice.”

“Okay, do you want me to stop by and get the name on my way to the next target’s house? I’m heading there right now to take a close look at the landscape near his garage and the neighborhood cameras.”

“Yes, that would be great. I appreciate your cooperation, Abe.”

“It’s Abraham.”

He clicked off the call and made a U-turn in the middle of the street. He had to backtrack only a mile, pick up the name, then continue to John’s house.

The stop was five minutes long. Like before, Abraham pulled to the curb, walked to the door, and waited for the invitation to enter. A few courtesies were exchanged, then he was handed the sheet of paper that contained the name of the man and a few personal facts about him. With a head tip to the homeowner, Abraham turned around and left. The latest man would get in line after Brandon Ellis.

He continued to John’s house and drove past it slowly, giving it a closer look than he had earlier. A cluster of decorative shrubs sat to the right of the overhead garage door. He needed to check them out thoroughly to see if they were dense enough to remain hidden behind when John’s headlights lit up the driveway. He planned to park down the street, casually take to the sidewalk, and glance at each house within view of John’s as he passed. He would check out the shrubbery on his way back to the car. He had one more address to investigate before enjoying a nice supper, then he could return to his motel room and watch TV until nine thirty that night.
