Chapter 17

Abraham called his client. “Your proof of a completed job is on my dark web account. I’ve just uploaded the pictures.”

“Good. Now on to Brandon Ellis. Wait until the end of the week, though. In the meantime, you can surveil Detective Cannon.”

“Speaking of him, why do you want a cop killed?”

“Why do you kill people for a living? We both have our reasons, our justifications, and questions aren’t permitted.”

“Yeah, yeah, I know. Just curious.”

“Okay, anything else?”

“Nope. You can expect to see more pictures by the weekend.”

Abraham ended the call. He planned to spend the day following Brandon Ellis, learning his habits and his hangouts, then kill him on Friday. That would give him the weekend to see what the detective did on his days off. After that, he would tail Cannon during the week and also find out who lived in that house with him. Killing him there wouldn’t work unless the residence was empty at the time, but that would involve too much time spent anchored to the detective’s home. He would have to find a different location.

Focusing on the task at hand, Abraham opened his laptop and began learning everything he could about Brandon Ellis. He also wanted to change up the way the man would die. Too many murders using the same method would lead police to think the killings were related, and so far, he’d killed both Kim and the pawnshop couple with his gun.

No more shootings. I’ll come up with a creative and entertaining way to end Mr. Ellis’s life. Poison or maybe a garrote. I could stab him, suffocate him, drug him, and then chop him up. No—too messy. First, I better see how big the man is. The only thing I know about him is that he’s a purse thief and not the type of person I’d consider killing, but it isn’t up to me to make that call. I’ve already been paid, so the decision is out of my hands.
