Chapter 45

The creases on Nathan’s forehead spoke volumes.

‘I know you’re probably all a little tired, so I promise not to keep you much longer. I’d like to look at location. Maggie noted something significant the other day when we found Kelsey Gilbey and I think it’s something we need to take into consideration. Bethany, you may be able to help with this line of enquiry.’

‘OK, guv. I’m all ears.’ Bethany sat forward.

Nathan walked to the board and started noting down the locations of Tracy Holloway’s house and where the team suspected she’d been abducted from, taking into account all the information they had. He then drew a line connecting this to where her body had been found. Next, he wrote down the details of their second victim, Kelsey Gilbey. Her address and potential abduction location, followed by where her body was discovered. He turned back to the team. ‘You’ll notice that the distance between where Tracy and Kelsey were taken is approximately eighteen miles. Each park where they were found is about ten miles from where they lived. The parks are around fifteen miles each in distance from where Dr Moloney lives – on either side.’ Nathan removed the clear sheet and placed it over the map of Staffordshire he had blown up for the meeting. In a bright red marker, he circled an area that was in the middle of everything else. ‘If we follow the same logic that we did in the Raven case, here’s where our killer will live or work.’ He tapped the circle on the board. The room was quiet as everyone concentrated on the location: Forrester Grove, and the surrounding area was highlighted on the map.

‘Bethany, if you cross-reference any persons of interest who may crop up from the agency, chances are the majority will live in the area, but I think we can rule out the females. We can then pull out any specific persons of interest.’

‘Would it be worth pushing Probation now? I asked Sarah to speak to her colleagues about any cases that have raised an alarm recently. Also, what about having Kate look over the list when we have it whittled down? See if she recognizes any names?’

‘Good call, Maggie. Though we’ll have to tread carefully on both fronts, as if something does come up, we don’t want it to be thrown out at a later date because we involved Kate.’ Nathan looked at his watch. ‘I’ve kept you all longer than I promised, I know. Just a few more things to go over but it looks like I may have something to share with you all today.’ Nathan pointed to the doorway and, for once, Maggie was speechless.
