A Note on the Author

Laurie Edwards is a graduate of Georgetown University and received her M.F.A. in nonfiction writing from Emerson College. She is a patient advocate and lifelong patient with multiple chronic illnesses, including primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), a rare genetic lung disease, and autoimmune diseases. Her first book, Life Disrupted: Getting Real About Chronic Illness in Your Twenties and Thirties, was named one of 2008’s Best Consumer Health books by Library Journal. She has written for the Boston Globe, Boston Globe Magazine, Glamour, and many other outlets, and her health blog, www.achronicdose.com, has been featured in Wired and on numerous other blogs and websites. Edwards teaches health science writing at Northeastern University and lives outside Boston, Massachusetts, with her husband, daughter, and rescue dog.
