Braid Cable (over 9 sts)

Repeat these 4 rows for pattern.
With smaller needle, cast on 101 (107, 113, 119, 125) sts.
Next row (RS): [P2, k1b] repeat to last 2 sts, p2.
Next row (WS): [K2, p1] repeat to last 2 sts, k2.
Repeat last 2 rows until ribbing measures 1–2½ in. / 2.5–6.5 cm (or desired length), increasing 9 (11, 13, 13, 15) sts (by working into the front and back of same st) evenly spaced across last WS row [110 (118, 126, 132, 140) sts rem].
Change to larger needle.

Continue pattern as set until piece from the beginning measures 12 (13, 14, 15, 16) in. / 30.5 (33, 35.5, 38, 40.5) cm or desired length to armhole. End having completed a WS row.
Bind off 3 (3, 6, 6, 6) sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows. Hang a pin-type marker somewhere in the middle of the first bind-off row for ease in measuring armhole depth.
Next row (RS): K1, ssk, work to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.
Work WS row.
Repeat last 2 rows twice more [98 (106, 108, 114, 122) sts rem].*
Continue on these sts until armhole measures 4½ (5, 5½, 6, 6) in. / 11.5 (12.5, 14, 15, 15) cm.
Work across 65 (73, 76, 81, 89) sts, place last 32 (40, 44, 48, 56) sts just worked to a holder or waste yarn and continue across row.
Work one WS row across 33 (33, 32, 33, 33) shoulder sts only.
Next row (RS): K1, ssk, work in pattern to end.
Repeat last 2 rows once more to 31 (31, 30, 31, 31) sts. Place sts on a holder or waste yarn.
Join new yarn at neck edge on WS and work across left shoulder.

Join new yarn at neck edge on WS and work across in pattern.
Row 1 (RS): Work in pattern to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.

Work Rows 1 and 2 until 31 (31, 30, 31, 31) sts rem.

With WS facing out, connect shoulders using the three-needle bind-off.
With smaller needle, cast on 56 (56, 59, 62, 62) sts.
Next row (RS): [P2, k1b] repeat to last 2 sts, p2.
Next row (WS): [K2, p1] repeat to last 2 sts, k2.
Repeat last 2 rows until ribbing measures 2–2½ in. / 5–6.5 cm or desired length, increasing 1 (1, 0, 1, 1) st (by working into the front and back of same st) evenly spaced across last WS row [57 (57, 59, 63, 63) sts rem].
Change to larger needle and continue as follows:
Row 1 (RS): P6 (6, 7, 9, 9), work Row 1 of Braid Cable over next 9 sts, p2, k1b, p2, work Row 1 of Triangle Cable over next 17 sts, p2, k1b, p2, work Row 1 of Braid Cable, p6 (6, 7, 9, 9).
Row 2 (WS): K6 (6, 7, 9, 9), work Row 2 of Braid Cable over next 9 sts, k2, p1, k2, work Row 2 of Triangle Cable over next 17 sts, k2, p1, k2, work Row 2 of Braid Cable, p6 (6, 7, 9, 9).
These 2 rows set pattern. Work 10 (9, 8, 8, 8) rows, then work increase row as follows:
Increase row: Work 1 st, M1, work to last st, M1, work 1 st. (The RS will be purls and the WS will be knits.)
Work increase row every 11th (10th, 9th, 9th, 9th) row 7 (8, 9, 10, 10) times more to 73 (75, 79, 85, 85) sts.
Work even if necessary until sleeve from beginning measures 15 (15½, 16½, 17½, 18) in. / 38 (39.5, 42, 44.5, 45.5) cm or desired length to underarm. Bind off on RS in pattern.
Make other sleeve to match.
With smaller needle, begin at left front shoulder seam and pick up and knit 3 out of 4 sts around, including live sts from back and front neck holders. Adjust number to a multiple of 3. Place a marker and continue in rnds as follows:
Rnd 1: [P2, k1b] repeat around.
Rnd 2: [P2, k1] repeat around.
Work Rnds 1 and 2 until collar measures 2½–3 in. / 6.5–7.5 cm or desired length. Bind off loosely in pattern, leaving a long tail. Fold collar to inside, if desired, and stitch down.
Position center of sleeve at shoulder and stitch into armhole, including bound-off area at underarm. Repeat for second sleeve.
Using mattress stitch from the RS, sew up side and sleeve seams.
Weave in any ends and steam lightly or block according to directions on ball band.
