Designed in Garter stitch with no shaping for the brand-new knitter, this versatile top is made from two squares sewn together. If the I-cord cast on and I-cord bind-off seem intimidating, they can be omitted, and you will still have a great result.

Instructions are written for size 6; all other sizes follow. Girls’ and young junior sizes are separated with a colon. For ease in knitting, circle your size before beginning.

• This crop top has no shaping. It has drop shoulders and an attached I-cord finish.
Note: On every row, slip the first st purlwise, then put yarn back behind needle and continue across.
Cast on 91 (95, 98, 101) 104: 107 (110, 117, 123) sts.
Work in Garter stitch with slip-stitch edge for 7½ (8, 8½, 8½) 9: 8 (8½, 8½, 9) in. / 19 (20.5, 21.5, XX) 23: 20.5 (21.5, 21.5, 23) cm. Place a marker at beginning and end of row for armhole placement.
Continue until total length measures 12½ (13½, 14½, 15½) 16: 13½ (14½, 15½, 16½) in. / 32 (34.5, 37, 39.5) 40.5: 34.5 (37, 39.5, 42). Place 17 (19, 20, 19) 20: 25 (26, 27, 30) sts for each shoulder on a holder or waste yarn; place center 57 (57, 58, 63) 64: 57 (58, 63, 63) sts on waste yarn for neck and rem sts on a holder or waste yarn for other shoulder.
Work same as for front.
From the RS, use the three-needle bind-off to connect the shoulder sts together.
Begin at center back (or desired placement of I-cord seam) and place all live sts from front and back neck on needle and work attached I-cord around.
From the RS, whipstitch side seams to markers, leaving 5 (5½, 6, 7) 7: 5½ (6, 7, 7½) in. / 12.5 (14, 15, 18) 18: 14 (15, 18, 19) cm unseamed for armhole.
Work attached I-cord around each armhole opening and bottom edge.
Weave in any ends and steam lightly or block according to directions on ball band.
