Behaviour
- Cats paw at the floor to mark their territory - they sweat through the bottom of their paws (and the sweat contains scent) which they rub on the ground.
- When a cat is near you and its tail lightly quivers, this is a sign of absolute love and affection.
- However if the tail is thrashing, it is in a very bad mood!
- Another sign of happiness is when a cat squeezes its eyes shut.
- Cats can be trained to use a human toilet instead of a litter box. Amazingly, some owners have even managed to train their cats to flush after going!
- When you cat brings you a dead mouse or bird, it isn’t necessarily bringing you a present. Some animal behaviouralists believe that the cat thinks you are a poor hunter, and brings you prey because it thinks you are incapable of capturing it yourself.
- Scientists say that cats don’t think of themselves as small humans - they think of humans as large cats!
- If your cat is frightened, covering its eyes helps it calm down.
- If your cat rolls over onto its back and exposes its belly to you, it means that you are trusted!
- When your cat licks you it is a sign of affection.
