Card Interpretations
and Card Intentions
In addition to some basic keywords for the seventy-eight tarot cards, most of the information that follows are examples that illustrate some reasons or intentions you may have for selecting the cards to be used in an Intentional Tarot spread. In traditional tarot we seek to interpret the information that the cards are giving us in relation to our issue or question. In Intentional Tarot we use our own intentions for selecting cards to help guide our energies to the universe. The card theme words found in the appendix may also aid you in selecting the cards to use in your Intentional Tarot spreads.
The intentions that follow reflect hypothetical specific situations, but they use general wording intended to help you see how the card can be used in Intentional Tarot. Suggestions that indicate “my friend” could also refer to the precant, in the ironic sense of “asking for a friend.” Suggestions that refer to “my child” are often more protective than one might use for a contemporary. Those that refer to “my organization” could be appropriate for any group such as a club, church, political party, non-profit, or for-profit company.
The examples are grouped by the four positions that, when used together, are called the Intentional Tarot spread. In that spread the My Promise and My Gratitude cards should relate to the topic of the My Goal card, which is clarified by the My Understanding card.
