One hundred nine

Tau hung up the phone and nodded to Dario, who returned the nod. He whipped the revolver into the black Mississippi River far below, its heaving waves dimly lit by the moon’s light. Tau followed suit, tossing the burner phone into the river.

“He says the rest of the money is on its way.”

Dario smiled and fist-bumped Tau. “Looks like it’s just you and me now, man.”

Tau smiled and nodded. “Yep. You and me.”

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

I would first like to thank my readers for the opportunity to share my passion for writing and storytelling. I appreciate your willingness to join me on this adventure. Writing this book and delivering it to you has been a true blessing.

I would also like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to my husband, Geno Bartone, for his unwavering support and patience as I hid in my office banging at the keyboard night after night. Without his ideas, constant support and encouragement, this book never would have come to fruition.

Special recognition must go to my daughter, Brittani Bartone, for her countless hours spent reading and editing the manuscript, as well as her heartfelt encouragement, especially when my own self-doubt reared its ugly head (which was often). Her contributions to this novel have been invaluable.

Thank you also to my first readers: my sister, Kathleen O’Connor, and my dear friends, Allison Brady, Allison Stohlmann, Jelena Nik, and Jerry Spiegelberg. Your insights into the depths of the characters have truly opened my eyes and helped guide me through some challenging issues, ultimately leading the story toward its best outcome. Your comments, recommendations and encouragement mean the world to me. I appreciate your generous time and support.

I would like to express my appreciation to the City of Saint Paul, Minnesota, for serving as the backdrop of my story, and for providing me with the inspiration to write this novel.

Finally, I would like to thank my parents, David and Patricia O’Connor, for instilling in me the fire and passion for writing. I miss you Dad.
