HOMEMADE PUMPKIN SPICE

If you’ve only ever purchased pre-mixed pumpkin spice, please give this a go—there’s a surprisingly big difference in taste. And, for the amount we use during fall and winter, it’s far more economical to boot. I purchase spices at a bulk food store for greater variety, value, and freshness (just make sure your store has a good turnover rate). Keep this addictive spice mix handy to perfectly season the holiday season. To be clear, there is no actual pumpkin in pumpkin spice.

Makes 1 large jarful

½ cup ground cinnamon

⅓ cup ground nutmeg

⅓ cup ground dried ginger

¼ cup ground allspice

3 tablespoons ground cloves

Add all ingredients to an airtight glass jar, seal, and shake until combined. Store in the pantry for up to 1 year.
