Is sad that such manners as waiting until grace is said before eating, waiting until all are finished to leave the table, and using kind comments to thank the hostess have been deemed unnecessary or downright antiquated in today’s busy fast-food-furious It world. Then, you walk into a Southern home where those courtesies are not only expected but also performed, and you feel all warm inside. You enjoy your dinner instead of being rushed along as if there’s something much more important that must be done. It’s not the speed of life that separates the South from the rest of the world, but the speed of respect that we as Southerners have for each other and this way of life we love so much. Respect simply deserves the time it takes to achieve it.
