A corner of a municipal cemetery in Paisley known as ‘The Garden of Remembrance’. A number of gravestones dating from 1946 are dotted around this section. There are more in evidence beyond. The ground is marshy, uneven, and rises to a modest hillock towards one corner. Part of a drystane dyke encrusted in lichen and ivy separates ‘The Garden of Remembrance’ from the rest of the cemetery.

The action in Act One spans a morning in the winter of 1967, Act Two a winter’s afternoon five years later. In Act Two Mrs McCann’s recently turned-over grave is revealed.
