Health Tip #11 – Cut Out Alcohol
Alcohol can also lead to a lot of weight gain. The “beer belly” is not a figure of speech. Alcohol messes up your metabolism by redirecting it from burning fat to burning alcohol.
This is because your body can’t store alcohol so it burns it immediately which means that the entire time you are drinking as well as the time afterward when you are dealing with the hangover, your body is not burning any fat. It’s just struggling to burn all that alcohol.
Getting “light” beer or low calorie drinks isn’t going to make a difference either. The problem isn’t the calories. It’s the alcohol itself.
It’s ok to enjoy a glass now and then but if you overdo it, you’re going to stunt your weight loss progress because your body is going to have to store any calories you consumed as fat while it works on burning all the alcohol away.
So, if you’re struggling to lose weight, try cutting out alcohol at least until you have reached your goal weight. At that point, still keep your alcohol intake down to a minimum so that you don’t undo all the hard work.
