“Hold on a minute,” I said, grabbing Calvin by his arm. “You're telling me that you were once employed by the Mega Corporation?”
“That's correct,” he answered, nodding.
“Well, what happened? Why are you now trying to fight against them?”
Cal looked out into the deep shadows of the forest around us. Finally, he sighed and sat down on a fallen log.
“I guess we have a few moments to talk. The Mega Corporation is a shadow company. You'll never see their signs on any buildings or on television advertisements. They stay behind the scenes. But they're the most powerful force in the Roblox universe. They control nearly all of the servers and how they're developed. For the most part, they don't bother people, so long as you play by their rules. However, if you try acting on your own or going against the norm of things around here, they will come for you!”
“What about this Oasis server that you've been talking about?” I asked.
“The Oasis was a special server built by one of the most talented developers in the Roblox Universe. He wanted a place where anyone could be anything, free of cost! A place where everyone was equal! But the Mega Corporation feared it would upset the balance of the world they created, so they took over the server once it was finished and got rid of the creator. Now it's a place for only the highest ranking members of their society. Their vacation home!”
“So, that's when you decided to leave?”
“Yes. Mega Corporation grabbed the Oasis developer and I knew for certain that I was working for the bad guys. So I went rogue! The Oasis creator had several friends who had helped him construct it, and I knew they were in danger too, so I helped them hide. In exchange for my help, they told me about the backdoor entrance to the Oasis network! The keys that the Mega Corporation holds that would allow me unrestricted access to the server!”
“Did the Mega Corporation know you knew about this?” I asked.
“Of course not,” Cal said. “They would have killed me! They only threw me in jail because they thought I had been negligent in my duties and allowed those builders to escape. They didn't know how involved I was in the process.”
“Until now,” I added.
“Yes, until now.”
“So we have two keys now,” I said. “How much further do we have to go?”
“There's one more key hidden on this server,” Cal said, standing to his feet. “But getting it won't be easy, and once we enter the actual Oasis server I have no idea what to expect.”
“What about soldiers from the Mega Corporation,” I asked. “Should I expect to see more of them along the way?”
“I'm afraid so, but I don't think they'll be soldiers. Not here.”
“Great,” I said, sarcastically. “More zombies?”
“No zombies either. We're located on the fantasy server of Hexaria, so expect to see lots of skeleton kings and wizards. The Mega Corporation will always disguise their soldiers so as not to arouse suspicions.”
“Wizards and skeletons,” I said slowly. “Well, I guess it could be worse. Let's get going!”
