MUCH TO MY RELIEF, there was a small elevator located adjacent to the Control Room, which meant that I would not need to do the dance of death to get out again. Cal opened the door and we both stepped in.
“Which floor?” I asked, leaning towards the console.
“We're going all the way to the top,” Cal replied with a smile.
I looked at the console. There were over one hundred stories in this building! I found the highest one, marked 101, and pressed it.
“Here goes nothing!” I said.
The elevator began to climb at a rapid pace. Once we had cleared the basement I saw that the walls of the elevator were glass, allowing us to see out into the halls and rooms of each floor that we passed. As we rose through the building I was astonished by what I saw. Every level was dedicated to one of the major servers in the Roblox universe! I saw floors for Jailbreak, Lumber Tycoon, and many, many more! There were people hard at work on computers on each floor, monitoring activity and tweaking things.
“Does the Mega Corporation control every server?” I asked, astonished.
“Not all, but many,” Cal replied “But that's about to change. We're almost at the top!”
A few moments later the elevator came to a rest on the very top floor of the building. The glass doors slid open silently. We walked into an ornately decorated room. On every wall were magnificent paintings from the Roblox world, and priceless collectibles sat on pedestals all around us. At the far end of the room was a large desk, and behind the desk sat one man. He looked strangely familiar! Then it hit me, he resembled that strange bird that I had seen in my delirious state the night Calvin had crashed the car into the wall!
“Who is that?” I asked.
“That is the leader of the Mega corporation.”
“Calvin, it's good to see you back again. I wasn't sure if you'd make it!”
“Wait, what?” I exclaimed, shocked.
“Don't worry, Alex. Calvin has been working for me. You see, it was I who wanted to make the Oasis server free to the public, but if I had done it myself, the other members of my company would have turned on me. I had to make sure it happened from the outside! So I chose Calvin, one of my most trusted employees. And I see I made the right choice!” the man said.
“Thank you, sir,” Calvin replied, meekly.
“So, all this time you've been helping this guy fight against his own company? Why didn't you tell me?”
“I couldn't risk it,” Cal said. “I wasn't sure if you were a spy or not!”
I rubbed my head and chuckled. “Wow. This is a lot to take in!”
“If you think that this is a lot,” the Mega corporation boss said. “Your head is going to spin when you head into the Oasis!”
“Well, when can we go?” I asked.
“Right away! You boys have earned it! Just follow me through this portal!”
The boss stood from his desk and waved his hand towards a small portal in the corner of the office. As we followed him into the opening I wondered what wild adventures lay before me in the Oasis!
There was only one way to find out!
