SOURCES

While most of my produce comes from the farmers’ market, one of our smaller neighborhood markets, or the Asian grocery, a few online retailers are superhelpful in sourcing more difficult-to-find ingredients or—to be honest—just convenient means of picking up supplies when life gets busy, as it’s known to do. Here are a few of my favorites.

BOB’S RED MILL

www.bobsredmill.com

Bob’s Red Mill sells a wide variety of whole grains, whole-grain flours, and nut flours and I rely on its vital wheat gluten and garbanzo bean flour for many of the core recipes in this book.

WORLD SPICE

www.worldspice.com

Despite the fact that many grocery stores in Seattle have a large bulk spice selection, some spices are still tough to find. For more obscure blends, such as the berbere spice for our Berbere Roasted Roots (here), I hit up World Spice.

PENZEY’S SPICE

www.penzeys.com

A great, general spice retailer, Penzey’s selection is vast, so it always seems to have exactly what I’m looking for.

NEW ENGLAND CHEESEMAKING SUPPLY COMPANY

www.cheesemaking.com

To source a few pieces of cheesecloth, I find that these guys are always reasonably priced and well stocked.

LEM PRODUCTS

www.lemproducts.com

LEM Products is my go-to source for vegan sausage casings suitable for home use.

SPECTRUM ORGANICS

www.spectrumorganics.com

I rely on safflower oil and coconut oil for the recipes in this book and the cooking I do at home. Spectrum is a great online spot for organic, unrefined oils.

ASIAN FOOD GROCER AND KOA MART

www.asianfoodgrocer.com

www.koamart.com

In Seattle, I love shopping at Uwajimaya for Asian ingredients and produce, but if you’re looking for a good online resource, Asian Food Grocer has a great selection of sauces and seasonings and KOA Mart specializes in more specialized Korean ingredients.
