This Is What a Comeback Looks Like:
EG Project Wins Major Award at the DDAs
December 31 | Naver Music
Three-member rock band East Genesis Project won Artist of the Year and Album of the Year at the recently concluded Diamond Disk Awards. This is the second time the band has received both awards, the first time being three years ago, after the smashing success of their second album, Sophomore Year.
The band, composed of Jo Yihwan (lead guitar/piano, backup vocals), Steven Bae (percussions), and Song Minchan (lead vocals, bass) proudly accepted the awards tonight, tearfully thanking the fans for their continuous and unwavering support. In his speech, Jo Yihwan said, “It will always be a pleasure writing music for the fans who believe in us through still and rough waters. Thank you for trusting us this much, thank you for staying.”
It’s not a secret to the entertainment industry how rough this year had been for the band, their fifteen-month absence from Korean soil making critics doubt their ability to sell as well as they did during their first two years. And while the initial ticket sales for their Asian tour boded well, that phase was riddled with scandals involving band leader Jo Yihwan.
“A lot of people around us were doubtful we’d win anything tonight, and that was fine. It’s been a rough year,” Steven Bae disclosed at a backstage interview. “But I guess that’s what makes this victory so much sweeter.”
EG Project’s newest album Scandalized still remains at the top five of the local charts almost three months after its release. According to Amethyst Entertainment, talks about another concert tour are underway and may perhaps push through this coming spring.

[ +9,251, -5,103 ] I never doubted EG Project for one second. These boys are everything. Congratulations, and may the new year be kinder!
[ +7,045, -2,002 ] What a turnaround. Three months ago, my friends and I were predicting EG Project will just disappear into oblivion after that sex scandal. Mad props for coming back strong.
[ +5,878, -3,345 ] Off-topic, but is it weird that I’m kind of shipping Yihwan with that road manager girl they photographed him with?
[ +4,750, -123 ] If Scandalized didn’t win Album of the Year, it would have been a travesty. It was SO good, better than their first two albums, which I loved too.
[ +310, -2,890 ] Let’s be real. They only got Artist of the Year because of that shit advocacy thing they started.
