Witnessing

Witnessing Theme Memory Verse

Matthew 28:19-20

[Jesus said,] “You must go and make disciples of all nations. Baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And you can be sure that I am always with you, to the very end.”

“Oh, man! I can’t wait to tell Jordan about . . .”

How do you think that sentence ends?

“. . . the dress I bought!”

“. . . what happened at Jeremy’s party!”

“. . . the concert!”

“. . . those great-tasting sourdough bagels at the bakery!”

It might not even occur to you to say “. . . Jesus!” But if you think about it, why not? You have the best news anyone could ever hear. Jesus loves everyone and is waiting to be their Savior. But you might not always be excited about telling people this good news. Why not?

Witnessing means sharing Jesus with others. It’s telling your friends, family, and neighbors about the person who saved you. Jesus wants to be a part of their lives, too.

Witnessing can be hard because you may not think you have the right words to say. Or you may be afraid that people are going to think you’re a freak. But just like Bible study, prayer, and worship, witnessing is one of the things Christians need to do to stay in a healthy relationship with Jesus. Jesus even commanded it. In Matthew 28:19–20, He said, “You must go and make disciples of all nations. Baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

This week, we’re going to talk about witnessing. Why is it important? What words can you use to tell people about Jesus? And should witnessing be about more than the words you say?

Hopefully by the end of the week, you’ll be as excited to tell people about Jesus as you were about those sourdough bagels.

Prayer

Dear God,

Thank You for my salvation. Help me to be willing to share the joy I’ve felt in knowing You. Help me tell others about You.

Amen.
