Worship

Worship Theme Memory Verse

Psalm 99:5

Honor the Lord our God. Worship at his feet. He is holy.

It would be wonderful if our country won a great battle against our enemies. But what if afterward the president himself stripped down to his boxers, danced in the streets of Washington, DC, and shouted, “Hooray to God!”?

You might call that silly, but the Bible would call it worship.

King David was so excited about winning a battle against the Philistines that he danced in the streets wearing only an apron. Amazingly, a whole crowd of Israelites danced with him. It was a glorious day. (See 2 Samuel 5:17–6:15.)

What other ways to worship are mentioned in the Bible? Why should we worship? Does worship mean we have to sit quietly and fold our hands at church?

This week we’ll look at what worship is and find out just how great it can be. Be ready to be surprised with what the Bible says about worship. (And remember, before you can dance in the streets in a loincloth like King David did, you’ll have to ask your mom and slay a bunch of Philistines.)

Prayer

Dear God,

This week open my mind so that I understand why You want Your people to worship You. Teach me how to worship You from my heart.

Amen.
