Learning About Jesus Theme Memory Verse

John 8:12

[Jesus] said, “I am the light of the world. Those who follow me will never walk in darkness. They will have the light that leads to life.”

It’s amazing that the God of the universe came down to earth as a human being. Jesus ate lunch, did chores, laughed, and hiccuped—just like you do. But He also calmed storms, healed diseases, performed miracles, and died on a cross, changing the rest of history.

God’s Son came into a world darkened by sin, but He didn’t leave it that way. He brought life and hope. He gave you an example of how you ought to live as a Christian. In John 8:12, Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Those who follow me will never walk in darkness. They will have the light that leads to life.”

Have you ever gotten up in the middle of the night for a drink of water? When you first turn on the overhead light to find a glass, the light hurts your eyes. You need to cover them to shut out the painful glare.

The people who met Jesus responded like that. They’d been living in darkness, going about things the way they thought best. But when Jesus entered the picture, His “light” was too bright. Some people were drawn to His light, but some people hated Him because of it.

As you read through a few stories about Jesus’ life, let Him shine His light on your heart. And choose, even when it isn’t comfortable, to follow Him.

Prayer

Dear God,

Thank You for sending Your Son to earth. Help me to learn from the life He lived and also be a light for Jesus in this world.

Amen.
