A Perfect Week of Corfu

Day 1

Corfu Town

Start with a coffee at a café on the Listón. Cross the Spianáda to take in the Paleó Froúrio, then marvel at the Asian Art Museum. After lunch, climb the Néo Froúrio, then head out to Glyfáda or Kondogialós for a swim. Watch the sunset from the Kaiser’s Throne at Pélekas. Return to town for dinner.

Day 2

The South

On your way south, stop at the Paleópolis museum, then visit the Achilleion. Have lunch at a Boúkari seafood taverna, then spend the afternoon on the beach – Íssos has dunes and a windsurfing centre. Try Klimataria in Benítses for supper, or Tripas in Kynopiastés.

Day 3

The Northeast

Head northeast from town, pausing to visit the National Gallery Annexe in Káto Korakiána or the Byzantine church in Ágios Márkos. Then have lunch at Agní, Kouloúra or Ágios Stéfanos. Kalámi has the best pebble beach in the area. In the evening, drive up to Paleá Períthia for dinner in the old village square. Change your overnight base to Róda or Aharávi with tomorrow’s trip in mind.

Day 4

Eríkoussa

Hop on a boat in Róda or Sidári for a daytrip to Eríkoussa, the closest of the Diapóndia islets. Then head to Perouládes to watch the sunset from the cliffs over Longás beach. For an amazing view, have supper at the Dionysos in Afiónas village.

Day 5

Northwest

Start the day at magnificent Ágios Geórgios Págon beach, then head to the castle of Angelókastro before afternoon closure. Lunch is at Lákones for its views over Paleokastrítsa, your late-afternoon destination – perhaps another swim before visiting the lovely Theotókou monastery towards dusk. Have dinner in Doukádes village, at Elizabeth’s .

Day 6

Paxí and Andípaxi

Take a day cruise to these two islets south of Corfu. Likely targets will be the Paxiot west coast with its spectacular Orthólithos stack and sea caves, or the mock-Caribbean coves of Vríka and Vatoúmi on Andípaxi. Dinner on return in Kérkyra Town – perhaps at La Famiglia for some Italian fare.

Day 7

Round-up

Today, catch whatever you’ve missed so far. Pass the Archaeological Museum in town (closed for renovation at the time of writing) with its imposing Gorgon pediment; the outstanding icon collection inside the Byzantine Museum; or the Folklore Museum in Sinarádes. Have lunch at the little sea-view taverna above Myrtiótissa beach, and after a swim gain entrance to the historic monastery here.
