CHAPTER 10
Sometimes you might feel sluggish, grumpy, lousy, and maybe even nasty toward other people. Or perhaps you are inactive because a lack of energy leaves you unmotivated to do anything. What’s really happening is that your energy is blocked somewhere in your subtle body. After you are cleared of blockages, your emotions and moods are lighter and you have oodles of energy.
To clear these blockages, some intervention is needed. With the right techniques, you can clear energy from yourself, as well as others. Some of these methods are active; some are passive. But all of them will get things moving along the energetic pathways, making you and your partner feel like your old selves again!
Learn How to…
In Chapter 5, we talked about chakras, the “wheels” or centers that help distribute energy throughout the body. Before we go any further into cleansing techniques, I want to make sure you have a clear idea of what we’re talking about. Think for a moment of a sink full of water. When you unplug the sink, a funnel of water slowly swirls in a clockwise rotation (or in the opposite direction if you are in the Southern Hemisphere), and it zips down the drain, creating an energy vortex. An energy vortex is the rotation of energy that swirls around a center. The speed of this energy is faster at the center than at its outer boundaries.
Chakras are a little bit like that, taking in energy and pulling it into the central channel called the sushumna. The sushumna is the central channel in the chakra system to which all the chakras are joined. It runs parallel to the spine and links the other chakras and subtle energies (the nadis) of the body.
When a crystal is placed near a chakra, it influences the subtle energies of all the chakras. The whirling chakras pull the energy modified by the structure of the crystal into the sushumna and nadis for distribution by following the programming in the crystal and the intent of the healer.
Obviously, the chakras are quite sensitive to crystal energy. Even if you aren’t fully aware of changes in your own subtle energy, it’s best to start out slowly with the crystal exercises in the next section. As your subtle body becomes more energized and your awareness expands, you will become more and more sensitive to small changes. For this reason, I recommend that you always ground yourself very well before beginning this type of work.
Like a magnet, a crystal has the ability to pick up and absorb energy of all kinds. When a crystal absorbs negative energy, you can easily cleanse it by smudging it or placing it in a salt water bath. But sometimes our chakras get cluttered and need a good cleaning, too. Up until now, you’ve done this by either wearing a crystal or placing one on your body or at a chakra. Now, you are going to learn another way to clear unwanted energy quickly from centers of energy.
When using a crystal for healing the chakras, you need to be very gentle and move slowly. Chakras are as delicate as tissue paper. Although they are a bit more elastic than paper, you need to be respectful of their capacity for change. Slow and steady wins the race when it comes to transforming negative energy to positive.
Why do you want to clear your chakras? Like a storage battery, chakras can retain energy and fill up with day-to-day clutter and need to release stored energy. We hold onto negative emotions such as grief or uncertainty and stressful experiences such as trauma. We don’t always have time to empty it out. Press in at your solar plexus right now and you may find it’s a bit tight and sore! This physical awareness of your solar plexus is from tense emotions held at the physical level. When you massage the area (gently), you are easing the physical condition. Some people work out at the gym and engage in physical activity to ease pent up emotions. See how closely emotions are to the physical body? But how do you release the more subtle emotional level in the chakra and keep it in balance?
The whole system can be optimized for peak performance by routinely cleansing the chakras. The results are positive energy and an improvement in overall health and wellness. Emotions are calmer because they have a place to go and are more efficiently processed. Your mind is eased of troubles and there is improved mental focus. You may even find yourself whistling while you work!
Let’s try an easy exercise using a more advanced crystal healing technique so you can see the effects of clearing a chakra using crystal therapy. Whereas holding a crystal or wearing one is a passive way to work with crystals, this technique is part of the Crystal Therapy System (CTS) that I teach at my crystal healing school, the Crystal Alchemy Academy. The methodology is based on energy medicine and dynamic techniques for opening, clearing, calming, rebuilding, and rebalancing energy using crystals.
We’ll use the throat chakra for this clearing exercise because many people seem naturally more sensitive in this area. Later, you can try this with your heart or solar plexus chakra. Please read through the instructions first to ensure you understand and are comfortable with the entire process.
Your intent for this session is to clear any blockages in the throat chakra. Follow these simple steps:
To reduce the intensity of the session, you can also use a smaller crystal or hold the crystal farther away. Move it 10 to 12 inches away from your chakra, and hold it steady instead of moving it around the chakra. Everyone’s sensitivity is different because we are all made of different energies, experiences, and DNA.
Remember, it’s just your own unwanted energy that has been stuck trying to release itself. Breathing deeply and quickly can help alleviate any discomfort. Stay with the feeling. It’s like exercising a muscle. There are bound to be some cramps along the way, but it’s worth it for the result.
Remember to put the crystal aside for cleansing with a salt bath or smudging and for recharging the next day. This type of dynamic crystal energy work runs down the crystal’s internal battery, but your own energy should feel lighter because you have cleansed the energy that might have been dragging you down.
Chakras not only need to be cleansed, but they also need to be aligned every so often. As humans, we encounter many bumps, both emotional and physical, along the road of life. Releasing and realigning energy keeps us moving at a steady clip and prevents major breakdowns.
The chakras are fragile yet substantial enough for almost everything we experience throughout our lives, including falling off bicycles, falling in love, walking down grocery aisles, or walking down the wedding aisle. Chakras respond to everyday stresses by floating around a bit in their positions. They are structured like a flower with petals that open and close to protect subtle energy from damage.
Some shocks are just too much and can cause a misalignment of the subtle body energy. Doctors and physiotherapists work on your physical body, but the subtle body also needs repair.
You can confirm how aligned your chakras feel by using a pendulum to ask if all your chakras are aligned. If you get a no answer, ask one by one which chakra should be realigned. When you are in alignment, you will find yourself standing and sitting tall and your response to everyday stress will be minimal.
The use of kyanite for chakra work is not widely known or practiced by many, yet it is very effective. For this exercise, you’ll need a piece of blue kyanite, which has a natural alignment in its structure and can align energy sideways as well as up and down. It balances like your head on your neck. Kyanite is sometimes called a kyanite wand because the crystal is often long, flat, and split like a wooden stick. Kyanite is recommended as part of the healer’s crystal toolkit.
The kyanite crystal should be a length no less than 2-inches long and 1⁄2-inch wide. Hold the crystal with one end pointing directly into the center of each chakra for a count of 7 or 21 seconds each, depending on whether you need a minor adjustment or a bit more work.
Another nice benefit of kyanite is that you don’t need to worry about cleansing or charging it because it’s one of the few crystals that is constantly charged and never needs cleansing! When placed close to other crystals, it helps align their energies as well.
Now how would you like to do some more crystal healing, but this time with a partner? The following exercise is part of the aura balance and clearing techniques taught in my crystal classes. The exercise helps warm up the aura by circulating energy and activating the subtle energies. You’ll be using a crystal to sweep the aura of impurities. The aura will be balanced, meaning that the energies will flow smoothly. Your partner in this exercise needs to be willing to participate and remain open minded to experiencing crystal energy work.
As with any crystal work, grounding is important. Before beginning this exercise, both you and your partner should stand facing each other, and each of you should visualize roots under your feet anchoring you deeply into the ground for a minute. Breathe deeply and regularly.
As the healer in this case, select a cleansed and charged quartz crystal point 3- to 5-inches long in either rose quartz, clear quartz, or amethyst. These master healing crystals already know how to work with the human aura and are gentle balancers of energy. You may also use a selenite wand for this exercise.
Before you begin, inform your partner that you can stop at any time—and be sure you do stop if you’re asked to. When a person closes up his or her energy, there’s no point in continuing anyway. If your partner says nothing but seems uncomfortable, offer to stop. Checking in from time to time is standard practice among healers.
Now follow these steps:
You can’t go wrong with this exercise because the crystal is doing all the work, and you aren’t working on the more sensitive chakras. Your partner might experience tingling and some feelings of pressure as the crystal encounters blockages in the flow of the energy in the aura. He or she might also feel some swaying back and forth with the changing energy flows. These are all typical responses to energy activation and clearing. It can be a very nice experience, and at the end, you’ll both feel relaxed from sharing the healing experience.
If you and your partner are going to switch places, be sure to go through the grounding exercise again and have your partner use his or her own cleansed and charged crystal to work on your aura.
If you have been the healer, make sure you cleanse your hands of any negative energies picked up from your partner. Wet your hands in cold water and rub the skin lightly with sea salt to purify the energy and cleanse the hand chakras. Rinse the salt off your hands with more cold water. Cold water is used to help close down sensitivity in the hand chakras after handling crystals. Be sure to cleanse and recharge your crystal before using it for other healings.
In ancient traditions a wand with a crystal is called a scepter and is used as a symbol of authority. Just holding a wand generates a lot of energy. When crystals are placed at the tip of a shaft, the energy generated can be amplified and directed to disperse in a very powerful and focused way. The wand can be moved around to direct the flow of energy. If you have a crystal wand, you can use the Dedication Prayer in Chapter 8, or use the Activation prayer found in the next section.
A wand can be used in place of the crystal for the clearing auras exercise in the previous section. Test the wand on yourself first to ensure its energy is activated. (The test can be as simple as pointing the tip at the opposite hand to activate the hand chakra.) You may feel a tingle or coolness. Perfect!
Before you begin, smudge the wand and then hold the wand in your hand to warm it up for several minutes to excite the molecules and generate an energy charge. It’s like starting a car on a cold morning. The crystal and metal or wood shaft will unite their energies for a more powerful wand attunement.
Now it’s time to activate the wand. While sitting, hold the wand on your knee and lower thigh. Roll the wand back and forth on your knee or between your hands, visualize a white light surrounding you, and recite the following Activation prayer:
The wand is now ready for focusing and moving energy into alignment for healing purposes. You can hold the wand by either one or both hands and point it a few inches above the surface of your body to send healing energy. Try visualizing white light or colored chakra light coming from the wand’s crystal tip into your body. Look just past the tip for an aura of energy. You will become more attuned to the crystal’s light the more you work with it.
At psychic shows, I often use a crystal wand as part of a crystal healing demonstration. I ask for a volunteer who has no prior experience with crystals to come up to the stage to have their aura cleansed. This is the same aura cleansing exercise done with a partner as explained previously, but using a crystal wand. For demonstrations, I use a really large 30-inch copper wand with a 3-inch-wide amethyst crystal at the tip, which packs a powerful punch to just about any sceptic’s aura. Often, someone in the audience will gasp out loud, surprised that they can see white light pouring out from the tip of the crystal wand. The volunteer sometimes sways gently back and forth, feeling the amplified power of the crystal.
If you want more practice using a wand, try these exercises:
You can also use your crystal wand to align energies for crystal layouts and crystal grids. Your crystal wand is an important tool in your healing toolkit. A wand is strong yang energy. To keep your wand energized, keep it wrapped up in a red silk cloth. Cleanse it in smudge, such as sweet grass, and leave it in sunlight or moonlight to recharge it.
You learned in this chapter to use some basic healing techniques for chakras and the aura. Your connection to your crystals will be stronger when you use them on yourself and others. As you gain more knowledge about crystals and your intuition broadens, try new crystals and try different ways of working with them. Let your intuition guide you. In the next part, there are suggestions for specific crystals used in healing the body, mind, and spirit.
Kyanite: I open the dimensional portals. I provide the connectivity between different energy sources and etheric layers. I unify the frequencies for communications and direct energy flows.
