I have been lucky enough to enjoy a number of holidays in Scotland and my last visit was the inspiration for this story. In particular the Glengarry Castle Hotel with its enviable position on Loch Oich was how I pictured the setting of the fictional hotel in the story, although I must point out that the Glengarry Castle Hotel is indeed stunningly beautiful and certainly not in need of repair!
