The letter N

A serpent or snake was the original pictogram of the letter N. Once again the visual connection is apparent although most people tend to find the serpent in the letter S. (Snake-like demons in Tibet are called nagas.)

Many of the uppercase letters have been “squared” over the past several thousand years. It is certainly easier to chisel square capitals in stone than a line of cursive. Uppercase N has lost its sinuous quality, as have uppercase A, M and numerous others.
