*1. When it comes to consciousness, nothing is black and white. For this reason, and to simplify the discussion, this guide classifies a lucid dream as any dream in which the dreamer has any level of awareness that he or she is dreaming.

*2. Archetypes are complexes or groups of emotions, patterns, and memories that extend past the individual personal experience. They are part of the collective unconscious, or the objective psyche, which includes the complexes that compose the entire human experience.
