I got out of bed with a yawn then jollily sauntered over to my closet. I got clothing out of my closet and put it on, I grabbed my brush and brushed my hair calmly.
Soon, after I finished getting ready, I strolled through the living room into the kitchen where I grabbed a pop-tart and popped it into the toaster. Then, Jackie walked into the kitchen with humongous, red, tired eyes, and started her coffee. I grabbed my book off the table, the one that I left on the table from the night before and continued reading it until the toaster dinged.
I stood up with a smile on my face and walked over to the toaster. I grabbed a paper towel from right behind the toaster and grabbed my pop-tart. Then, I walked back to where I was originally sitting and sat down before I took a bite of the delicious, warm, toasted, pop-tart.
My first bite was delicious, the texture was warm, and the pop-tart was so soft that it gently melted in my mouth. The second bite was the same, then I finished the pop tart and gulped the milk that Jackie sat next to me. Jackie began to slowly come back to life when she took a few sips of her coffee, she stopped acting like a living zombie and began to smile.
I threw away my unneeded paper towel and went to the bathroom where I put the minty toothpaste on my toothbrush. Then I spit it out of my mouth, it tasted absolutely horrible, and my face showed disgust.
Even though the toothpaste mixed with the pop-tart did taste really bad, I never let it overpower my excitement. Then I grabbed my backpack and went to the front door to leave, where I was abruptly stopped by Jackie who hugged me and told me to have a good day.
I walked to school happily until I passed the run-down house and got scared, again. I knew someone lived there because there are lights always on, I did not know who though. My imagination got to me because I assumed ghosts due to the remembrance of the girl, I saw yesterday the girl was so pale, but at the same time dark.
Not too long later, I arrived at school and was worn out from the running; again. When I was sitting in the gym that morning, I thought about the surprise and the baby along with California. I told Samantha and Allie about the baby and the California surprise at lunch because Samantha got to school late, and I did not want to share it with just Allie.
“Really, you guys are going to California?” Samantha asked.
“Yes,” I answered, “Isn’t that absolutely amazing! Famous people live in California maybe I will meet someone famous!”
“Hey, I have some good news too,” Allie said, “dad was promoted to manager of the store he works at and we are moving into a house I get my own room!”
“Really,” Samantha said loud enough to make the teacher give us a dirty look.
“Yeah, but there are ups and downs, he makes more money, but he will work later hours so we might not get to see him all the time.”
“That is just amazing!” Natalie said sarcastically as she walked over with her dirty attitude.
“When did you decide to come over here, are you some kind of vampire sneaking upon us?” I asked sweetly but with some extra salt, like a chocolate drizzled pretzel.
“No, but I and my girls decided to come over when we heard Sami’s pathetic scream.”
“Well, she did not choke on her hot dog, so I believe she is ok.” I tried to stay as calm as possible, but it might have come out as a scream. Then Mrs. Sturbridge walked over with an unpleased look on her face.
“My name is Samantha,” Samantha sassed, and Natalie snarled.
“Whatever, your name will always be Sami to me.”
When Mrs. Sturbridge looked at all of them and Natalie saw her, she began to bawl. Then Mrs. Sturbridge put her hands on her old, petite hips, pursed her lips, and asked, “What’s wrong?”
Natalie replied sobbing, “I came over to see what the matter was because Samantha screamed real loudly, did you hear it? Isn’t that my job being part of the student council?”
“Yes, that is your job keep explaining,” Mrs. Sturbridge was babying Natalie and playing her game, which was making me sick.
“Ok, when I came over, they were,” She started sobbing louder, “They were talking about me! Calling me fat, ugly, and worst of all the B-word which is a bad word; I know you are a Christian and you do not cuss so you wouldn’t know the word. Then when I came and asked why she was calling me that, she yelled at me!”
Mrs. Sturbridge took each girl in the hallway and told them to explain—even though she had her mind made up about the incident. She did not believe me and my friends instead she believed Natalie and her five girls that follow her everywhere she goes like little sidekicks, five outnumber three any day. I was the only one that was in trouble and was sentenced to in-school suspension for the rest of the week. My Aunt Jackie was called and had to leave work early, to pick me up because a prissy cheerleader does not like me.
“Hi, Lilian” Hayden was sitting in the office when I exited the principal’s office.
I sat next to Hayden and asked, “Why are you in here?”
“Umm... I witnessed what happened and I am on your side, but I am not going to the teachers I am going to Mr. Sweetie because Natalie is a suck-up to all of them. Plus, mom would hate me if I didn’t stick up for you.” Hayden is so sweet to me.
“Oh ok, by the way, I know you didn’t witness it, you weren’t around. Why are you in here?”
He gave me a guilty smile, “Natalie treats you horribly all the time I mean she makes fun of you all the time and talks about you all the time. That is why I am done with her I cannot date someone fake. You have to see what I see here.”
“Wait, you’re not dating her anymore?” My heart leaped up.
“Yeah, I’m dating her.” Then, it sunk back down.
“Why though? You just said you couldn’t date someone that fake.”
“Well, I’m thinking about breaking up with her, she’s seriously not that pretty and she has a fake butt,” he said while Jackie walked into the office.
“Hey, Jackie is here, but between us, you guys aren’t a cute couple. Like does the devil deserve an angel?”
“Lilian let’s go home!” Jackie said tiredly and angrily, “Hayden, why are you in here?”
“Uh, does it matter?” He smiled innocently.
“No, I guess not. But I am asking your mother.”
“OK, that is fine if I tell her.”
“Hayden, you’re my favorite, and don’t get yourself in trouble.”
Jackie walked to the secretary and signed me out. Hayden walked into the principal’s office and left me there to face Jackie, an angry giant, alone.
“Ok, Lilian let’s go home,” Jackie sighed and led me out to the car.
In the car, we were both completely silent, except for the sounds that cars make when they are headed down the road. It was not an exceedingly long drive it was a ten-minute walk though. We were home and then we started talking again.
“What actually happened?” Aunt Jackie asked.
“It all started in Music when I dropped something and Natalie told me, ‘Your Aunt Jackie doesn’t need any more trouble she is already depressed about your dumb mom.’ Excuse my language but you asked for the truth. Anyway, that ticked me off and then Jasmine let me stay after class to pass papers out. And Natalie tried to stay there, but Ms. Jasmine made her leave. So, at lunch, she targeted me and my BSFFs and I yelled at her and now I guess I am in suspension.”
“Yes, I knew it wasn’t your fault, but is she in suspension too?”
“No.” I was so angry.
While I waited, I did my normal. I was scared about suspension because it sounded scary: a big room in the basement with the meanest teacher of all. Although the teacher was scary enough, I still had to deal with the kids, some of them in there for drugs, violence, knives, and scary things like that, all on my third day of sixth grade.
It is the year, just not the one I had hoped for.
I was in there because I lied to a teacher and was talking about people behind their backs or in the principal’s eyes- bulling. I would never do such a thing in most people’s opinion just Mr. Sweetie did not know me well.
Also, in some people’s opinions, Natalie would never do anything wrong. She did a lot of sports and was part of the student council and I on the other hand played one sport, softball, and did only one extra subject, music. Natalie played softball, basketball, volleyball and was even a cheerleader. I tried out for cheer but never made it because I had no friends that were cheerleaders beforehand, and the picking was unfair.
Soon, Jason came home, and we ate dinner, frozen pizza.
“Lilian, to cheer you up. Do you remember the surprise of yesterday?”
“Yes,” I answered kind of sadly.
“So, you know how we are going to California, yeah, Summer is coming to, and we are going your birthday week,” Jason told me.
“OMG, that’s amazing!” I said, even though my birthday was in July and I already knew that Hayden and Summer were going because they had mentioned it already.
